A few weeks ago, we developed a signature cocktail for Aura Cacia (Frontier Organics) to serve at a media event held at New York's Bouley Botanical. Our mission? To create a drink that was both radiant and aromatic -- to honor Aura Cacia's high-quality aromatherapy oils. We turned to a classic cocktail recipe, the Bee's Knees (gin, honey, and lemon) for its purity of flavor, and added a few new dimensions: a pop of turmeric + a pinch of lavender as garnish.
We wanted guests to smell the lavender on the surface of the drink and to feel invigorated by the fresh taste of citrus. And we added turmeric -- one of our favorite cocktail ingredients -- to inspire thoughts of a healthy glow. We hope you give it a try on a gray day when your senses need a boost.
Turmeric Bee's Knees with Lavender
2 ounces gin (try Barr Hill, made with honey)
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 ounce turmeric honey syrup
Turmeric Honey Syrup (recipe below)
Lavender, to garnish
Combine gin, lemon juice, and syrup in a shaker with ice. Shake, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with lavender.
Turmeric Honey Syrup
Combine 1 shy teaspoon turmeric with 1/2 cup honey to make a paste -- a mortar and pestle works well. Add 1/2 cup warm water (not boiling). Stir until combined. Transfer the syrup to a glass jar and refrigerate. Shake well before using.
Gratitude: A big thanks to Frontier Organics for reaching out to us as collaborators! Below are some event photos, courtesy of Aura Cacia.
