When fresh berries are in high season we like to host Sherry Cobbler parties. Easy to setup and fun for guests, Sherry Cobblers require only a little creativity on your part to make one of summer's most stunning cocktails.
The Sherry Cobbler is a key American original that combines Sherry (we like to use Amontillado) with fresh, seasonal fruit and a dash of sugar.
Cobblers captured the drinking public's attention in the mid-19th century and quickly became one of the most widely consumed cocktails in the country. It was such a craze that even the Europeans took note, and a bemused Charles Dickens penned a famous cobbler scene in Martin Chuzzlewit. The drink was advanced and aspirational, involving 'cobbled' ice (newly available coast to coast!) plus a true advancement in beverage enjoyment-- the straw.
We love the Cocktail Dudes video series, and we're thrilled to share our Sherry Cobbler party ideas with host Jeff Janke. Enjoy!
