You’ve seen the acai bowl…you probably love the acai bowl. Unfortunately, we’ve never quite developed a taste for this Kool-Aid-purple superfood powder, despite its antioxidant-rich legacy. Spoon it into a blender drink, however, and you’ve just made us plum (er, acai) crazy. Turns out acai’s acidic twinge mixes well with rum. Add a nip of cassis – a deep purple liqueur made from currants – in place of sugar, and you get a pool-side beauty that’s tart and fruity. Here, we boost nutrients with in-season nectarines, but you can also substitute a cup of berries, like blueberries or blackberries. For a sweeter, slightly less boozy daiquiri, drop the rum back to 1/2 ounce.
3/4 ounce white rum (we like Don Q)
3/4 ounce cassis
1 fresh nectarine, sliced
1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon acai powder
6 ice cubes
lime wedge, for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a blender, and press play. Serve in a chilled glass, garnished with a lime wedge.
